Paul Illsley

Join Paul on his 5-week, 7800 km journey around the beautiful island of Iceland. Located just below the arctic circle, Iceland is home to creeping glaciers, dormant and active volcanoes, sizzling geothermal vents, exploding guizers, cascading waterfalls and stunning black sand beaches.  Paul will be showing some of the images he recorded during his journey and giving his impressions of this spectacular country.  
 
Bio:
With over 40 years of photographic experience Paul’s work has been published by National Geographic, used by The Royal Canadian Mint in the form of a coin, by Canada Post in the form of a stamp and featured in a number of international publications.

Paul has served as imaging specialist on a NASA and National Geographic sponsored airborne laser (LiDAR) mapping project in the Peruvian Andes and as an instructor of Cartography, Remote Sensing, and Research Imaging on the NASA and National Science Foundation sponsored Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP) in Alaska. Paul is an award-winning graduate and former instructor of Remote Sensing, Airborne Imaging and Digital Mapping in the Cartography department at the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Paul has been a cartographic consultant for the Discovery Channel, underwater imaging consultant for the History Channel and processed satellite imagery for the Canadian Space Agency. He has recently been using his extensive photographic experience to create 360-degree panoramic tours of trails and natural places.

Paul is a retired airborne imaging specialist in the Applied Research department at COGS where he was responsible for piloting and maintaining advanced drones containing Viable Spectrum, Multispectral, Hyperspectral, Thermal imaging sensors as well as active LiDAR laser mapping systems. He holds an Advanced Operations drone pilot’s certification from Transport Canada.

In addition to his cartographic and research imaging experience Paul has served as a reconnaissance specialist with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves and holds certifications in both parachuting as well as SCUBA diving. Paul enjoys free time activities such as kayaking, hiking and nature photography.

An Introduction to Luminosity Masks
How to Make and Use Them in Photoshop and Elements

Luminosity masks are the new buzzword in post processing, but in reality it is just another tool to consider. We will look at how to create and how to use them as adjustment masks. This is primarily best for Photoshop users, but I will show you a work around for Elements people.

Bio:
Bob Benson, FPSA EPSA, has held various positions with the Photographic Society of America, including a four year term as Divisions Vice President. Previously, he started the Interclub Competition for the older Electronic Imaging Division, then later, started the Interclub Competition for PID. Besides some other PSA related activities, he wrote an ongoing column for the Journal on Lightroom®. Since online judging has become common, he judges for international exhibitions and clubs in other areas.

At the local level, he has been on the Board for the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association since 2001, serving in many capacities, including President. He judges and presents at local clubs and for seminars on a regular basis, providing education programs and training for new judges. Through CACCA, he has earned major awards, including the Wanda Christl Award (photography excellence), Stinson Award (volunteerism), the Creativity Award, and holds a TOPS in color, mono, and creative prints.

“My biggest passion is prints and printing; there is nothing like seeing a well-crafted print. Back in the darkroom days, I was never satisfied with my B&W prints. Digital has changed all that, allowing the control I never was able to achieve before. Landscapes are my preference, but I am willing to try anything, as I see that as the best way to learn.”
